Filtered light in the forest. Found this little pied cormorant just chilling out on a log in the lake at The Briars. The bird hide there is great if you have the patience! Black cockatoos over the landscape 36 x 54cm. “Chip Wars” 36 x 54cm It happens every day on the foreshore! Someone throws a chip and the battle begins. My money’s on the seagull! I don’t often paint portraits, but this guy just has such an interesting face I had to give it a go!! A face that tells the story of many hard years working on the land. I love that you can try such a variety of subjects in watercolour once you understand how the medium works. It’s always exciting!! Painting the light! A half sheet practice sketch for a much larger painting. Great fun playing with muted colours and tones! And practicing painting cows without really painting cows ! 🤷🏼‍♂️ A very impressionistic painting of a waterfall scene. Straight out of my head, unrestricted by any reference photo! A bit of fun, but why not? #impressionistart #watercolour #watercolourpainter #landscapeart Another one of Civic reserve lake. Sometimes you spend all day searching for an interesting scene to paint, only to find there’s one right under your nose! Back to painting landscapes again. This is a scene that I found in Mount Martha. It looked a bit bland in reality, but I think it makes a nice watercolour. #watercolour #landscapepainting #watercolourartist #morningtonpeninsula Roadside Gums Mount Martha 54 x 36cm #watercolour #watercolourpainter #contemporarywatercolour #impressionistartist #morningtonpeninsula Happy to receive a “Commended” award for my painting “Survivor-Red-tailed Black Cockatoo” at the Mornington Art Show. Still a day to go, so come and have a look if you can. Summertime is hay bailing time on the Mornington Peninsula. There are bails lying around everywhere. Except here, where most of them are already stored away! 36cm x 54cm #watercolour #landscapepainter #watercolourimpressionism #contemporarywatercolour #morningtonpeninsula A few of my favourite paintings from 2025. Bali Sunset 36 x 54cm Thought I’d post this little half sheet landscape. I like how I’ve managed to retain the foreground light against that big dark hill in the background. #watercolor_painting #watercolourart #contemporarywatercolour Can’t wait for this long Melbourne Winter to end. So I thought I’d turn this cold wintery scene into something a bit warmer! Hoping to encourage a bit of Summer!! Hazy, lazy morning! 36 x 54cm #watercolour #watercolourpaintings #morningtonpeninsula #impressionistart #contemporarywatercolour #seascapes These three paintings will be on display at Knox Art Show in Rowville from 7-9 November. Come and have a look if you can at Churchill-Waverley Golf and Bowls Club. Another little 20minute sketch. Just enough detail, and a minimum of brush strokes! Had a lot of wild weather in Mornington lately, so here’s a couple of quick little sketches of waves. Sulphur Crested Cockatoos 76 x 54cm An overcast day at Flinders. 36 x 54cm https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNhGqRGzfS9/ “Bad Hair Day” 54 x 36cm. A Winters day with a storm rolling in! 36c54cm. Deep in the forest. 36x54cm. Such a complex subject can easily seduce you with the detail! So best to try to ignore it and go almost abstract. It’s just an impression of the actual scene. Another large format black cockatoo. 110cm x 70cm. Just experimenting with a very loose way of painting. Water and pigment running everywhere, right on the edge of being out of control!! Exciting and scary at the same time! But the result is great texture and some amazing effects. Worth pursuing I think!!
